Bishop Ocie Booker, Prelate of First Jurisdiction-Illinois Church of God in Christ, since August 16, 1997, accepted his call into ministry at 22 years of age. He received his formal theological training at Chicago’s Moody Bible Institute and the International Theological Seminary, Plymouth, Florida. He holds a Master of Science in Theology and is a doctoral candidate.

Bishop Louis Henry Ford, the organizer of First Jurisdiction-Illinois recognized his outstanding organization and leadership skills and appointed him to various jurisdictional positions including District Superintendent, Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of Public Relations, Administrative Assistant and he achieved national Church of God in Christ status as a member of the Executive Committee of the International Sunday School.

Bishop Booker organized and still pastors the Tabernacle of God Church of God in Christ. His mission for the church is the holistic development approach of our men, women and children.

Because of that commitment to humanity, in 1969, Bishop Booker became co-founder of the Logan Brethren Community Developers. That group sponsored a 72-unit housing development that still stands at 38th and Michigan Boulevard in Chicago’s Grand Boulevard Community. The development provided better housing for families living in sub-standard conditions.

In 1976, due to his concern for children and the growing decline in moral values in the public school system, Bishop Booker founded Tabernacle Christian Academy an independent co-educational, elementary and secondary Christian school for students pre-school through grade 12. The school grew from its initial eight students to become the largest private African American private Christian school in the State of Illinois.

Bishop Booker and his wife Jean Annette are the parents of three sons, Ocie Wendell (Vanessa), Ennis (Crystal) and Eric (Yolanda). They have nine grandchildren.
