On Friday, January 20th Chicago was hit with a threatening snowstorm. The storm that began early Friday lingered over into early Saturday morning, January 21st. This was the day scheduled for the First Jurisdiction Illinois 2012 AIM Leadership Summit. The snow caused us to gather a little slower than usual, because most people had to dig their way out to get to the church. But nevertheless an encouraging number of Summit Soldiers were determined to make it to this annual celebrated event. We were not disappointed in the least, for those that were able to attend were tremendously blessed by the information, motivation and inspiration that the Summit provided.
The theme for the 2012 AIM Leadership Summit was “Bold Strategies to Revolutionize and Transform Ministries. This summit is for all jurisdictional, district and local church leaders of the AIM departments (Sunday School, Music, Youth, Mission, Usher and Evangelist) to come together at the beginning of the year to encourage, develop, inspire, and to give them a boost to help them carry on ministry within the jurisdiction, their district and their local churches.
The First Jurisdiction IL 2012 AIM Leadership Summit convened at the historic St. Paul Church of God in Christ where the Bishop Charles Mason Ford is Pastor. The event began approximately at 9:30 A.M. with a Continental Breakfast and a time of fellowship. We then moved to the main sanctuary to officially begin the Summit and to hear two dynamic presentations that blessed us beyond measure.
Missionary Regina Gaston (State Music Department Administrator) was our early presenter this year. Her topic was “Positive Posturing – Leading with a Winning Attitude.” During this session she provided insight on Positive Posturing and how to stay positive, even when the greatly benefit us in ministry as we lead others. She let us know how important it was for us to Hear It – Speak It – Believe It. She also informed us that our body language speaks just as loud as our verbal language. There were so many powerful nuggets of information that she shared with us to help position us to be the positive postured leaders that God has called us to be. She did a most EXCELLENT job!! Her information was on point and on target!
After this wonderful presentation, we were blessed with a brief skit that illustrated the challenges we are often confronted with in leadership and how to positively posture ourselves to help bring others into agreement with the vision and goals of the day. The participants did a wonderful job in driving the message home of Positive Posturing and leading with a winning attitude.
The Keynote Speaker for this year’s Leadership Summit was 3rd Administrative Assistant Supt. Michael Eaddy. Superintendent Eaddy’s presentation was phenomenal. His subject was “Marketing Christ through 21st Century E-VANGELISM.” His subtopic was Remaining Relevant, Effective and Attractive. He let us know that marketing Christ in the 21st century requires employing innovative strategies to reach the masses of unbelievers at their level of need. He gave us some published information by the Nielsen Company entitled “The State of the African American Consumer”. The report disclosed trends, patterns, behaviors, influences, brands, education attainments, etc of African Americans in three primary areas: Demographics, What we watch and What we buy. He stated that we as a church must identify the needs of the people that we will be serving and implement programs and use different tools if we want to reach the masses!
He shared with us that:
He that winneth souls hath an ANGLE.
There were so many wonderful things that Supt. Eaddy shared with us that left us motivated, inspired and excited about doing ministry better in year 2012. He was simply SUPERB!!!
Hat’s off to AIM Chairman Pastor Michael Richardson and Summit Coordinator Elder Clifford Davis for spearheading one of the best AIM Leadership Summits we have ever had.
