The second night of or convention was nothing short of magnificent.
On this night, which we call our US night, the dynamic Usher Board and the vibrant Sunday School department were in charge. Just as God blessed us with His presence on our ME night He was ever so present on US night. The church was flooded with energy, enthusiasm and most of all the presence and power of God!
The night started with an invocation from little Miss Europe Hudson who is nine years old. When asked during the recent Sunday School Olympics, what she wanted to be when she grew up, she answered without hesitation that she wanted to be a Missionary!
As always we were blessed to witness our famous Usher Board banner march! Might I add that our Usher Board under the leadership of the President Missionary Cleola Crawford and Vice President Mother Ethola Holifield hails as one of the premier Usher Boards in the entire Church of God in Christ!
The banner march consisted of desrepresentatives from each district marching before the congregation showing their beautiful tailor made banners. The crowd cheered on and celebrated as their districts were announced.
Another highlight of the service was the presentation of the distinguished Usher of the Year plaque that was awarded to Mother Hazel Graham. The audience stood to their feet with thunderous applause while the choir dignified the occasion with a rendition of “You deserve it”. Indeed she was well deserving of such an honor.
Tonight was also a celebration of champions. Our Sunday School department led by Sunday School Superintendent Elder Michael Payton and Sunday School Field Representative Missionary Miriam Knox, awarded winners who participated in the recent 2017 annual Sunday School Olympics.
The electrifying First Jurisdiction Youth Choir under the direction of Brother Christopher Hodges and Sister Lequita Peel continued to sing out of their hearts as they rendered joyful songs of praise.
Once again we were blessed to hear words of encouragement from our sainted Jurisdictional Supervisor Mother Shirley Hughes and our illustrious Prelate, Bishop Ocie Booker.
The evening message was delivered by our Usher Board Vice President Mother Ethola Holified. After a brief prayer, she directed us to Psalms 68:19 and asked the saints to give her 10 minutes! After which, the saints exploded in affirmation. Her subject was “He daily loadest us with benefits”. Mother Holified was simply phenomenal. She stood flat footed and delivered a brief but powerful message that was filled with inspiring biblical nuggets and seasoned with her own personal testimonies that confirmed the many benefits that are afforded to those who serve the Lord!
After this powerful message, it was time to show love to our outstanding leaders whom we admire and appreciate as they labor in the Sunday School and on our Jurisdictional Usher Board.
